What are the sleeping arrangements/layout?
In the main hall inset down the aisles, are six, tasteful bunk rooms sleeping 26 (of the total 30 beds in the centre). All have leaded windows to the gardens (opaque at the lower levels for sensible privacy considerations, with a black-out blind (except Jackdaw which has no window). The rooms are separated by thick oak and formica panels and on this are mounted thick, opaque glass partitions almost up to the aisle ceiling, about 16 feet high between the rooms.
Crafted around original stone features are single, contemporary bunk beds of sound construction with good mattresses, each has a bed-light, shelf and clothing stand nearby, typical of what you might find on a modern overnight ferry (under and over), with a short, pitched ladder to the upper bunk, which have a permanent guard-rail). You can lift bunks and stow-away (please ask for guidance before use) to give you more space for other equipment or different types of beds (cots) you may need. Please note that some of the mattresses vary in length, see 'Chellington Bedroom Details & Layout'
The remaining four beds are in a separate enclosed bedroom with windows called Sparrowhawk (#7), near to the bathrooms with opening windows, blind and curtains. This room is fully secure (room key available on request).
Is the centre, being partly an old church, cold and draughty?
Double-glazed and insulated throughout, using a contemporary environmentally sensitive air-source ‘cascade’ hot water and heating system, the building is comfortable year-round (the heating hidden beneath a new limestone floor keeps all areas warm).
What are the bathrooms like?
Modern, clean and well laid-out. In each of the female and male bathrooms there are x3 toilets x3 sinks and x2 shower cubicles (temp. pre-regulated heads to avoid scalding) and in full access bathroom x1 shower (unregulated), toilet and x1 toilet. All un-limited hot water for sinks and showers.
So five showers and five toilets in total.
Does the group have to do the cleaning?
We have included the exit cleaning into the price of the booking, however we do ask for the centre to be left tidy and clear of your belonging at the time of exit. During your stay there are plenty of cleaning materials, plant-based products and clear instructions so that you can keep the centre clean.
